Music In Smallville Delivers True Emotion To Audience

When looking at television shows, there are numerous facets that can take it over the top. From the plots to the characters to the emotion that is expressed, every little detail can captivate an audience. But sometimes it is the music that will give it that last little edge, which is precisely what can be found from the music in Smallville.
Smallville is an American television series that is based on the DC Comics character Superman. It is an intense show that follows the adventures of Clark Kent who resides in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas. Through each passionate scene, action-packed adventure, and suspenseful mishap, the music from the show really helps the audience feel the characters emotions.
Music is a powerful tool that can do wonders for a show. During a climactic moment, the right tones can deliver shrills up one's spine. When a love connection is being made, the perfect song can enhance the perfect moment between two characters. And during an extreme scene, the proper music can have you sitting at the edge of your seat.
Music in Smallville has managed to capture all of this throughout the long history of the show. Each year music that is just right for what is happening seems to get played. It is just one more sign to a terrific show that has created a reputable image.
There is not much more to say about what you will hear each episode other than the mere fact that it is feeling, inspiring and even uplifting during the right moments. The only way to relive the magic is to pick up the official soundtrack, which is packed with true hits from a wide array of artists.
There are two separate mixes that can be purchased online, in stores and of course on iTunes. Some of the top artists in the industry are featured on these mixes including the likes of Weezer, Lifehouse, The All-American Rejects and Rascal Flatts.
Rascal Flatts shares their hit Feels Like Today on the second volume entitled Metropolis Mix. This mix also features You and Me by Lifehouse and Almost Honest by Josh Kelley. As for the first volume, The Talon Mix, you will find the classic Island in the Sun by Weezer, I Just Wanna Be Loved by AM Radio, and Superman by Five for Fighting.
The right tone, the right song, and the right music can really enhance a scene. This is precisely what music in Smallville has done and continues to do to this day.

Nadunisi Naaygal Review

Nadunisi Naaygal has a well-intended message on Child Abuse although the message stays detached from the rest of the film. Scenes of violence, murder and sex witnessed early in childhood creates an emotional dependency in Veera with the woman who rescues him from his father. The promiscuous father puts the kid through orgies, sexually abusing him to make him a serial killer and psychopath. From the 1960's "Psycho" directed by Alfred Hitchcock to the Anthony Hopkins starrer "The Silence of The Lambs", Gautham Menon's "Nadunisi Naaygal" has all of them.
Veera enacts the role of a 13 year old guy which does not look like what is said. The wig can fly off his head at any time, if wind blows on his face. From there on, he goes on to grow butchering girls for which Veera is not the most responsible for. The painful silence of no background music but proper rerecording of sounds engage without the conspicuousness of the absence of the BGM. Live sounding dialogues strain your ears to bleeding putting you in an inability to distinguish English dialogues from Tamil.
Nadunisi Naaygal is definitely not a rural delight but the metros will embrace the film for its stylish making and classy approach. Gautham Menon does sell and his directorial finesse which borrows only creative aspects from popular movies to transmute them in his style attracts and yet the director does portray women with adherence to the likeability of women. He has tried to conceal the fact that the film titillate with subliminal and sexually suggestive content and has come up trumps in doing so.
Veera shuttles between Narcissism and Inverted Narcissism of satisfying his urges and the desires of Meenakshi Amma whose fate is revealed at the end. It is symbolically revealed in the middle when she suffers burn injuries after Veera sets her husband ablaze. Nadunisi Naaygal is far from Bharathi Raja's Sigappu Rojakkal but is quite close to "The Silence of the Lambs" in terms of Meenakshi Amma's desire to knit the hair of young girls. This also has something unrevealed till the end.
The emotional dependency then turns out to be an emotional interdependency between the two pivotal characters - Veera and Meenakshi Amma. One fine moment of the film is when the director creates a 'no way out' for Sameera Reddy when Veera is beaten by her. When she attempts to escape, a completely new set of enemies confront her which is one of class in writing. With a shorter length and with releasing in lesser theaters, the hitherto unseen aspects of Indian filmmaking can generate prospects for the film to release in more centers.
Even then, the inspirations are evident which has happened from 'Psycho' and 'The Silence of the Lambs' predominantly and a slew of other films of the contemporary period. From the 'Psycho' to 'Anniyan', 'Nadunisi Naaygal' has all which is also based on a real life story. The leitmotiv of the film on 'Child Abuse' is overshadowed by the psychopathic tendencies of the film.
The climax is altogether riveting with unseen production values, designs and dark, handheld and candid cinematography of Manoj Paramahamsa. When Veera is shot by Sameera Reddy, it almost looks like a deliberate "The Silence of the Lambs". Nadunisi Naaygal is not suitable for women as well as children and saying it is not at all suitable is more apt, since it captivates you with disturbing images, blood and gruesome

Must See Movies of 2011

One of the first things that people look into at the beginning of the year is what movies are going to come out within the next twelve months. This builds up excitement for the next blockbuster. So, this 2011, what are the movies that we should look forward to?
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
This is the third installment of the Michael Bay directed franchise based on the 1980s toy line, comic book series and animated television series. Starring Shia LaBeouf, this movie picks up on a new power found on the moon. It rewrites our modern history to deepen the relationship of humans with transformers.
For geeks and casual fans alike, this should be a thrilling movie. However, considering that the last movie, although a box office hit, for a lack of better term, sucked, it's a bitter-sweet feeling to learn about the next one. Bitter since it could again disappoint fans of the franchise especially considering the fact that Meagan Fox, the breakout female lead actress since the original movie, won't be returning for this film.
On a positive note, Shia LaBeouf himself admitted that he didn't like the last movie. Hopefully this would fuel a better sequel. Plus, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Iron Hide, Starscream are all returning along with the other transformers plus new ones. And that should be sweet.
Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides
They couldn't resist. And the fans are happy about it. The famous Captain Jack Sparrow, arguably the reason why the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie became such a hit, returns to the big screen. Johnny Depp returns for this role along with Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa. We will see new faces in Ian McShane as the notorious pirate Blackbeard and Penelope Cruz as his daughter and Jack Sparrow's love interest. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley won't be reprising their roles as Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan-Turner respectively stating that their character's storyline has gone as far as it could.
In the fourth installment of the Pirates franchise, Sparrow and Barbossa are on a quest for the infamous Fountain of Youth. Filming was done in the United Kingdom and Hawaii instead of the actual Caribbean like the previous films.
Thor
Next is the upcoming Marvel movie Thor. Again this film is tied up with previous films such as Iron Man and the Hulk. Here, the Mighty Thor is banished from Asgard by his father Odin due to his reckless actions which results in the re-ignition of an ancient war. He is cast down to Earth as punishment. When the dark forces of Asgard invades, he then learns what it takes to be a hero.
Being one of the original Avengers, this movie, much like Hulk and Iron Man and the upcoming Captain America film, sets the tone for an Avengers movie to the delight of comic book fans all over the globe. Thor is played by actor Chris Hemsworth. The main protagonist of the movie, Thor's brother Loki, is played by Tom Hiddleston. Thor's love interest, Dr. Jane Foster is played by Natalie Portman.

End of The Rainbow at Trafalgar Studios London West End

Olivier Award winning star of Hairspray Tracie Bennett returns to the West End Stage in Peter Quilter's new play based on the later life of Judy Garland. Directed by the multiple commemorated award winning Terry Johnson, End Of The Rainbow received five star critical reviews and nightly standing ovations upon its pre London performances.
It's December 1968 and Judy Garland is going to make her comeback... once more. Inside a London hotel suite together with her youthful new future husband at her side, Garland struggles with a tornado of drugs and also alcohol consumption as she undertakes an exhausting series of shows at the Talk of the Town to attempt to recover her crown as the greatest talent associated with her era.
In spite of a number of failed marriages along with a damaged Hollywood career, Judy remains to be a tough, persuasive, outstanding lady continually equipped to the teeth with her renowned razor-sharp humor.
Featuring the spectacular performance by Tracie Bennet the production incorporates a number of Garland's traditional melodies, including the Man That Got Away, Come Rain or Come Shine, The Trolley Song and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, with a live onstage band.
Trafalgar Studios brief history: Formerly the Whitehall Theatre, Trafalgar Studios is two new theatre studios in one location in the middle of the London's West End. Starting up with the RSC's production of Othello, the bigger space provides close to 380 seats. Othello was followed by the Watermill Theatre's acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd.
Architects Tim Foster and John Muir have created two new intimate and dynamic theatre areas designed to insert a fresh energy and exhilaration into the venue as well as in to the West End. The Whitehall theatre started out in 1930 with a transfer of The Way to Treat a Woman by Walter Hackett (also the theatre's licensee). He presented numerous more very successful plays of his own right up until departing in 1934. The theatre continued to improve its reputation for common modern day comedies during the entire 1930s.
During the war this particular tried and tested formula was declined in preference of revue shows, that had been all the rage in other regions within London's West End. In 1942, The Whitehall Follies was launched, featuring a non-stop performance by Phyllis Dixey, people flocked in, mostly due to the fact that the well known Miss Dixey was renowned for being the very first stripper in the West End!
In the mid-eighties, under Ian B Albery, there was extensive refurbishment to complement the new program of high quality theatre. Most of the building's exclusive art deco features were kept, as well as the Whitehall reopened with a greatly prosperous revival of J B Priestley's When We are Married.
Highlights of the late eighties and early 90's include Run for Your Wife, Alan Ayckbourn's Absurd Person Singular and A Tribute to the Blues Brothers. Some other well-liked productions include Cooking With Elvis starring Frank Skinner, Only the Lonely, Trainspotting and John Godber's Bouncers. The theatre has also played host to radio and television shows and live theatre operating concurrently. Currently displaying is End of The Rainbow.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Movie Review

I was late in getting into the world of Harry Potter. I remember being in Barnes & Noble one day and saw the books (at that time, the fourth one had just come out). I had heard a lot of press surrounding the Harry Potter craze and being that I'm an avid reader I decided to pick up the four books to see what all the commotion was about. From that moment on, I was a Potter fan. This series of seven books could arguably be called one of the greatest book series of all time. So, like most good books, the movies soon followed. For the most part, the movies did well in keeping to what happens in the books, however JK Rowling (the author of the series) has packed so much detail, plot twists and hints into the books that it was hard for everything to be captured. That is, until now. I've already seen "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" twice now, once at the midnight premiere and again in IMAX, and I would say without any hesitation at all that this is not only the most faithful of the movies to the source material but also the best of the film series yet.
I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Warner Bros. had decided to start splitting the books into two films per book, starting at say "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". The film series would have been able to delve deeper into the small details, character development and overall themes that Rowling had captured so perfectly in her books. Perhaps we would have received a prolonged funeral for Dumbledore at the end of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", instead of hurrying through his death and not having the funeral at all. I know most people believe that the studio split the last book into two films purely to grab even more cash out of their most popular of movie series. But now, after having seen Part 1, I can't help but think that they simply wanted to tell the story as it should be told, leaving nothing out and honoring the story that we have all come to love.
It seems impossible to believe that the world has been watching Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up right before our very eyes. This film series has so far spanned a decade and we have watched children become adults. Not only have they grown up over these ten years, but their acting has come from novice to experienced veteran. We can see the trust that each one of them has with the other in their eyes and with their heartfelt moments of quiet and intimacy. For a good two-thirds of this two and a half hour film, these three are all we see and yet you feel as a member of this small group of friends. This dynamic trio of actors has raised the bar with each film and achieved their goals repeatedly, that I look forward to seeing the last leg of their journey with bated breath.
As always, the supporting characters continue to inspire us and bring this fantasy to life. The death of Dumbledore has crushed their hearts and left them without direction or hope. They all know that they must play a part in what is to come, but as the foundation upon which Harry must lean on to fulfill his destiny. Special attention should be given to Alan Rickman, aka Professor Snape, who plays his role so well that you can't help for thinking that it was written for him. Knowing where his journey is headed in the last film brings me great joy. Also, if you haven't yet been a fan of Dobby, be prepared to change your mind!
I hope that when the second part of this final chapter of the series is released, there will be marathons giving us each chapter back to back. Go from beginning to ending in a theater surrounded by other fans, both young and old. I can't express into words how excited I am to seeing this journey come to a close and leave knowing that I've seen and experienced something special. Here's hoping they knock it out of the park.

The Legacy of Yash Johar

Dharma Productions is home to some of the blockbuster movies in Bollywood. Their heart warming story lines, appealing star cast and flawless narration has been pulling in the crowd to cinema halls for many years. Their successful track record in filmmaking is a proof that their films have touched many hearts across the world.
Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd was established by Yash Johar in 1976. The company has been producing continuous blockbusters from the time of its establishment. Starting with Dostana starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha and the sensuous Zeenat Aman, the company started striking gold at the box office from the year 1980. With another ensemble of big stars in the industry was the film Duniya released in 1984 which also met with huge success. They came up with stories which had a mix of drama, suspense, romance and emotional sequences. Muqaddar Ka Faisla, Agneepath and Gumrah were their other movies in Bollywood.
Dharma Productions' reputation soaring new heights was obvious and soon they started a proprietary business concern. In 1998, the concern produced Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, first venture of Karan Johar- son of Yash Johar- in the film industry. The film became the first one from India to be featured in the UK top 10 list. This romantic film once again paired the Bollywood's most loved couple Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. In addition to being the biggest blockbuster of the year, the film received numerous awards for its stars cast and production values, nationally and internationally. The film got the National Award for Wholesome Entertainment for the year from Government of India.
The success journey of Dharma Productions was continued with Karan Johar with new story lines meant for the family as well as for the young audience. He made sure that the masses were attracted to his films and so included all the different elements of the fun and drama in them. Even though his movies were referred to as larger than life, his movie sin Bollywood never failed to entertain the audience. With Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham, not only he brought the stars of three generations together but also ensured its commercial success. His efforts paid of when the film did well in Indian and the overseas market. The film became the highest grossing film in UK and US in the year 2001.
Kal Ho Na Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, both films from Karan, were also appreciated. The screenplay of Kal Ho Na Ho is kept for reference in the Library of Motion Pictures, among other archives of Oscar films. Latest movies in Bollywood from Dharma Productions were Dostana, Wake up Sid - both with new generation actors and actresses- and Kurbaan and My Name Is Khan - with audience favorites like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The credit of giving some of the stellar movies in Hindi film industry goes to Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd.

Source Code

This film has Terry Gilliam's fingerprints all over it, especially those of the Gilliam who made Twelve Monkeys (1995). But, here, the closest we get to Brad Pitt's rambling genius is Michelle Monaghan in an adorable outfit. Better, though, is the lead performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, who has grown to have an incredibly commanding screen presence. From back in the days of Donnie Darko (2001) up until now, he's steadily been growing on me as an actor. Then, when Brokeback Mountain (2005) came around, it all just clicked and I became one of those "insta-fans," never looking back. Donnie Darko still sucks, but at least the guy is watchable now.
Source Code is an interesting film, directed by Duncan Jones (recall Moon from 2009). A man wakes up on a train, not knowing who he is or why he's there. Everyone aboard seems to know him, and he seems to have a thing going with the gorgeous girl sitting across from him. Eight minutes after all of this is established, they all die. The train explodes, and our man wakes up again in a capsule of sorts (or maybe a grave, existentially) with a voice coming to him from a television set telling him this - he's a soldier, Captain Colter Stevens, and part of an intense new system referred to as "source coding," in which he is to travel back into a tragic accident in order to discover both what went wrong and who to blame.
His mission, regardless of whether he chooses to accept it, is to disarm a bomb on that train and hunt down the criminal behind it. Of course, this isn't easy, and it's exactly where the film falls apart. The ending is cheap, and you can sniff it out from the first thirty minutes; the unnecessary love interest is shoved in our face (one has to wonder if the good captain will ever tell the girl that he's not who she thinks he is), and we get four movies for the price of one. But, this being a major studio release early in the 2011 canon, we get the one that doesn't hold a lot of weight. Just a few decent performances and a "Huh?" kind of an ending. Not "Huh?" in that it makes no sense. "Huh?" in that "this is the best they could do?"
In one of the exits the filmmakers propose to the audience, we'd get a character study about a man who is driven to extreme violence to save thousands of lives. In another exit, we'd get a love story against incredible and unchangeable odds. In yet another exit, there's the story of a man fighting for his country with blind faith. Instead, it's a mash-up, with all the wrong parts and a whole lot of cacophonous dissonance. We get glimpses of a man driven to extreme violence to save lives, but no, because he's a soldier (so that's automatically what we're told to expect from him), and he's a man who fights for his country with blind faith, except that he keeps whining about it and introducing subplots that only fatten the movie, and the love story is as sustaining as a cardboard lunch.
For what the character is, and could have been, Gyllenhaal does a charming enough job. I followed him in and out of that train and he kept me engrossed in what happened next. I truly wanted him to succeed. Vera Farmiga, whom I would bet money was just there for her soothing voice and devilish beauty, and Jeffrey Wright, who sacrifices his usually soothing voice for that of Mr. Moviefone's evil twin, are there as the people in charge of the source code program. Wright is Dr. Rutledge, the creator of the program, and Farmiga is Colleen Goodwin, the woman Skyping with Gyllenhaal throughout his ordeal.
In a film like this, where the science fiction is treated as just that, rather than fact (think Battle: Los Angeles as compared to, say, Blade Runner), it's easy to assume that simply shutting off the brain and staring at the film is enough. The questions asked in the film about life and reality, and its many variations, aren't answered, maybe because they don't need to be, or maybe because there simply aren't answers. But, for the simple fact that the inquisition is implied, the audience deserves a deeper peek at the many truths that lie in the many realities with which we are presented. Each version of the eight minutes that Gyllenhaal goes through are completely the same, yet entirely different, as the film's premise grows more urgent. The city of Chicago faces ruin, but the most pressing matter in the film seems to be the love story: a good ol' "will they or won't they" in exchange for thousands of lives being saved. Sure. Let's go with that.

Denzel Washington Movies

I love watching Denzel Washington movies. Denzel embraces his talent in becoming whatever role he is given. He can make you love him or hate him. This is the mark of a true actor.
Malcolm X is one of the Denzel Washington movies that almost everyone has heard of and seen. In this biographical motion picture, Denzel portrays the life and death of Malcolm X. If anyone has ever seen old clips of the real Malcolm Little, who became known as Malcolm X, you can see that Denzel truly became Malcolm X. From his appearance, walk, talk and mannerisms, you forget that you are watching a talented actor portray this historical figure. Apparently I'm not the only who thinks so as this compelling film has earned Denzel multiple awards and nominations.
American Gangster is another one of several Denzel Washington movies that portrays a real life individual. In American Gangster, Denzel plays a widely known Harlem gangster by the name of Frank Lucas. This film is not only good to watch because Denzel is in it, but because it includes a high-ranking class of actors including Cuba Gooding Jr., Russell Crowe and Ruby Dee. But once again, as in all Denzel Washington movies, Denzel steals the show.
Lucas comes from humble beginnings and quickly becomes a leader in New York's crime and drug scene. This rise of success leads to a large amount of wealth. But even with the newfound wealth, Lucas remains conservative in dress and style. American Gangster is a tale of organized crime, including the Italian mafia, drugs, violence and police corruption. Eventually, Lucas's successes of being a crime and drug king catches up with him as he watches his empire fall apart. To save himself from a heavy prison sentence he must do the unthinkable.
Fallen has received numerous positive movie reviews. This is a movie that will appeal to audiences who enjoy the supernatural as well as crime dramas. The movie begins with detective John Hobbes, played by Denzel Washington. He has received recognition for capturing psychopath and serial killer Edgar Reese. Reese has been sentenced to death row and everyone thinks that the killing is over. But once it's time for Reese's execution, Detective Hobbes realizes that there may be more to this case than he realized - much more.
Perhaps Reese isn't as evil and bloodthirsty as everyone believed. Maybe the murders were not really committed by him, but by someone or something that took control of him. When Hobbes takes his last walk, he begins singing the Rolling Stones song, "Time Is on My Side." This song will be a new clue in helping Detective Hobbes track down the killer who is committing a new rash of copycat murders. Who's the killer? A demon by the name of Azazel who can body hop into individuals by touch alone. Denzel does a great job portraying a detective in this hard to catch case. Only he and a female theology teacher know the truth of supernatural evil that they are up against. The ending is completely unexpected and Denzel plays the final role of Detective Hobbes flawlessly.
Born to a beauty salon owner and Pentecostal Minister, Denzel has a little something in common with his characters. He came from humble beginnings and look at him now.

Days Out for Sherlock Holmes Fans

Sherlock Holmes is arguably the world's most famous and recognised fictional detective. He is a timeless character who is loved by young and old throughout the world. His pipe smoking image is recognisable all around the world. Author Sir Conan Doyle wrote beautiful descriptive stories which have been translated into hundreds of language and read throughout the world. In some countries such as the USA and Japan the books from part of their schools national curriculum.
The Sherlock Holmes character was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle back in 1887. The first story was called 'A study in Scarlet' followed by 'The Sign of Four' three years later. The actual character was inspired by a real life doctor who Doyle worked for during his years studying medicine. Serous fans will already know this but may not be aware of a London walk dedicated to this character. If you are a real fan of Sherlock Holmes then the London walking tour is a must see event.
The 2 ½ hour tour starts at the famous address of Mr Holmes which is now a museum, 221b Backer Steet London. On the tour you get to visit many TV and movie locations which were featured in the recent BBC TV production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Also on route you will see many of the locations in the last big screen adaptation which was directed by Guy Richie and stared the great Robert Downey Jr.
The walking tour is led by an expert who will be able to answer questions about the famous detective. You will get lots of opportunities to take pictures and see the locations up close. If you have read all of the books then this tour is a must for you. You will meet many other fans on this walk so will have plenty of opportunity to talk to like minded people. You may even leave the tour with some new friends to keep in touch with.
Moneywise the cost of the tours is really reasonable, only £15 per person, or if you have a group of up to 4 the price goes down to just £10 each. If you have over 5 people in your group the tour costs just £8 each. Another idea is to buy gift vouchers. These make a great gift idea for someone who has a love of Sherlock Holmes. They can then choose the day and time of trip for when it suites them. If you buy a couple of vouchers they can take a friend which the giver of the vouchers would probably be first in line.

I Love You Phillip Morris

This is one of the best and most unusual romantic comedies I have ever seen. The way it subverts the genre and toys with audience expectations is truly exceptional, which is probably what should be expected from co-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the writing team behind the highly unusual and subversive Christmas movie Bad Santa (2003). They followed that with the lazy Bad News Bears remake (2005), which basically retread the same ground in a much less funny and original way, but for that I shall give them a pass, mainly because Santa is so severely excellent (it has replaced Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life as the traditional Christmas Eve movie in my family).
I Love You Phillip Morris is a film that lives up to the promise shown in that previous work. It begins by assuring us that "This really happened... No, really, it did," a disclaimer that becomes increasingly necessary as the story unfolds. Jim Carrey plays Steven Russell, whose book I Love You Phillip Morris: A True Story of Life, Love, and Prison Breaks provided the source material for the film, and it is quite possibly the very best performance of his entire career. Carrey, who was always known as an energetic physical comedian but not really seen as a seriously good actor until the late '90s when he began tackling weightier roles in films like Peter Weir's The Truman Show (1998) and Milos Forman's Man on the Moon (1999), dips into his whole repertoire here, employing his trademark grinning facial contortions and manic slapstick while also tugging the heartstrings with a portrayal of surprising emotional depth. This variety of technique is perfectly suited to the character of Steven, a con artist who is never quite what he seems and constantly pulls from a huge bag of manipulative tricks to get what he wants and needs, first because, as he puts it, "Being gay is really expensive," and later in doing whatever it takes to be with the love of his life.
This, of course, is the title character, one Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor), a sweet, gentle, southern-accented ingénue who Steven meets and falls instantly in love with in the prison library. Using his impressive influence within the prison system, Steven soon moves into Phillip's cell, which is haunted by the "Screecher" (Andrew Sensenig), a neighboring prisoner who screams all through the night, preventing anyone on the cell-block from getting any sleep. When Phillip realizes that Steven has paid another inmate to beat the Screecher senseless in order to have him transferred out of the block, he proclaims the act (in a moment somewhat reminiscent of Lorraine Bracco's admission in Goodfellas that Ray Liotta's pistol-whipping of her attempted rapist neighbor "... turned me on") "the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me." Of course Phillip, and we the audience, have no idea just how far Steven is willing - and, amazingly, able - to go for his love; arranging a prison beating is a mere trifle, the equivalent of a store-bought Valentine's Day card, compared to what comes later.
Steven's love for Phillip cannot be restrained, and he would rather be in prison with him than free without. He would also rather Phillip be in prison than free without him, which is understandably a source of one of their biggest disagreements, but for all of Steven's rampant deceitfulness, his heart is always in the right place, and we never stop rooting for him. Of course his behavior is self-destructive - unbelievably so, which continually leads us back to the opening caveat - but that is precisely why it is so endearing. It is all very poetic and romantic to talk about being willing to die for your lover, but Steven never even thinks twice about actually taking this chance. The lengths to which he goes are truly astonishing, and it would be shameful of me to reveal them here.
It is hard to find significant fault with this film, but the one mildly distracting element for me was McGregor's Texas accent, which felt a little forced, especially in the prison library scene, in which Steven and Phillip fall fast in love. Not all European actors can convincingly pull off American accents with the skill of a Christian Bale (even the great Tilda Swinton struggled with the word "medicine" in her otherwise flawless performance in 2008′s Julia), and McGregor's difficulty in this scene makes the love-at-first-sight moment that much harder to believe. However, the strength of Carrey's performance and the excellent writing make even this scene work better than it probably should; Ficarra and Requa are an impeccable writing team and have now shown themselves to be equally good in the director's chair(s). I can't wait to see what they do with someone else's script in this summer's Crazy, Stupid, Love. Assuming their taste in selecting material is as good as their own writing, it's sure to be excellent.

Blue Velvet: Is Jeffrey Beaumont a Pervert or a Detective?

When Sandy Williams asked Jeffrey Beaumont, the protagonist in Blue Velvet, if he's a detective or a pervert, he answered "It's for me to know and you to find out." What drives Jeffrey Beaumont to investigate how the human ear was lying on the ground on his way to his family home? What drives him to continue to see Dorothy Vallens after witnessing what Frank Booth is capable of? The relationships that Jeffrey Beaumont has with Dorothy Vallens and Sandy Williams are central to his journey. It's a journey with characters that represent Freudian archetypes to the protagonist. His journey has many elements of familiar myths described by Joseph Campbell.
In Joseph Campbell's book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces, he compared heroes in myths from several different cultures and eras to find common elements in a schema that he called a monomyth. The hero may begin in an everyday existence and on his journey end up tried in a very extraordinary world full of danger that the Hero is often unprepared to encounter. He returns with knowledge and self discovery. The schema of the monomyth can be applied to Greek Epic poems like the Odyssey to modern films like Harry Potter. In this case our hero is Jeffrey Beaumont. The myths may vary in structure and emphasis on different stages but they shared these stages. "Departure" is the stage in which the hero departs for his quest. "Initiation" is the stage in which our hero encounters obstacles along the quest. "Return" is the stage in which the hero returns home with his new found knowledge and experience.
Jeffrey, like other characters of myth at the stage of "Departure" embarks on a journey that in this case begins with Sandy to investigate the ear found in the grass. Sandy provided the information that Dorothy is a lounge singer that has been under surveillance by the police because of her ties to possible suspects. It is in the "Initiation" that Jeffrey descends into the underworld loosely constructed around Frank Booth. Dorothy is the catalyst. He witnesses the cruelty and impotence of Frank Booth and also becomes sexually involved with her. He wants to help her from this dangerous man to free her child and husband held captive by Frank Booth. He is courting Sandy, although she is unaware of the nature of his relationship with Dorothy. Dorothy appears naked and beaten in front of him and Sandy. He then must confront Frank Booth and held captive by him. He "returns" a hero with Sandy at his side and Dorothy reunited with her son.
Sigmund Freud's analysis of the psyche defines Jeffrey Beaumont's relationships to other characters in the film as well as the characters' motives. Central to Freud's understanding of the psyche are the division into two parts, the conscious and the unconscious. Freud also believed that the psyche can further be divided into the Id, Ego, and Super Ego. He also believed that in the Id lies the most basic human instincts: the sexual drive and the drive toward aggression. It is the Id that propels the psyche to seek out pleasure. Frank Booth is a representation of the Id. He lacks any impulse control and just as easily will beat a man that he sees as an obstacle in pursuit of his pleasure principle as he would rape Dorothy Vallens. Also in the rape scene of Dorothy, he keeps referring to her as his mother suggesting an exaggerated Oedipus complex. The Ego of reality is represented by Sandy. He goes to the underworld of Frank Booth without her and often unaware of what he witnesses. She represents his innocence. He protects her from the evil and danger of the world of Frank Booth. The Super Ego is externally represented by Detective Williams, it is the area looking for order from the outside world. Jeffrey himself, is trying to bring order to this world. He tries to right the wrongs done to Dorothy by Frank Booth. Dorothy is the most complex of characters, she is a sexualized maternal figure.
Jeffrey Beaumont is yet another young man suffering from Betty and Veronica Syndrome. Archie, the protagonist in the Archie comics, was forever trying to choose between Betty, the blond wholesome girl next door and Veronica, the unattainable raven haired beauty. Betty was the girl with unwavering devotion to Archie despite his dalliances with Veronica. Betty was practical and often had domestic skills attributed to her. She's often babysitting or spending time with neighborhood children in the Archie comics. Her frenemy, Veronica is her rival for the attention of Archie. Archie is constantly reminded that Veronica is out of his league. Her heart is never with Archie but she is jealous when he is with Betty. At the same time she is elusive object of beauty to Archie. He takes for granted that he can have Betty and he knows that Veronica is incapable of the same devotion as Betty, but he can't help trying for Veronica.
Sandy is much like the archetype of Betty and Dorothy Vallens is not unlike Veronica. At first, Sandy is Jeffrey Beaumont's confidant and partner in the detective case. It is the information she obtained from her father that leads Jeffrey to Dorothy Vallens. Dorothy represents the dark and forbidden and becomes the catalyst for the descent into the underworld. She is not a willing member of the underworld. She's a lounge singer, this has left her vulnerable as an object of desire to the darker character, Frank Booth.
Jeffrey Beaumont was ultimately driven by his sexual drive and his aggression as well as a curiosity for what could be a little dangerous and exciting. At the beginning of his journey he was a detective driven by curiosity but once he met Dorothy Vallens, he was propelled by perversion. Like most heroes, he is complex, and unaware of the danger he will face. He had choices to make, although not always the most honorable, in the end he gets the girl, the bad guys are gone, and Dorothy is reunited with her son.

Corporate Event Entertainment: 7 Dos and Don'ts

The little things that make big differences to event success.
The corporate event has such potential - to bring employee's together, to foster a culture of sharing and openness, to create good memories that will tide employees through hard times at work and help create a far more stable workforce. However, there's a reason that most people groan when they open an office Christmas party invitation! Competing interests and demands often lead to corporate event entertainment, activity choices and outcomes that really don't match the hype over corporate event possibilities. Today we check out some do's and don'ts for choosing everything from your corporate event entertainment or Melbourne corporate band, to a venue, an activity and a theme.
Do: Ask the people what they want
Many corporate event entertainment organisers feel that if they ask people what they want, there will be so many competing interests that they will only have to disappoint some people anyway. This is quite true - but you can get around it by asking your employees to negotiate an activity amongst themselves. At least everyone has the opportunity to speak and argue for their choice, then!
Don't: Pit departments or employees against each other
It's very tempting to make a competition out of corporate events, saying that it's 'all in fun'. However, competitive corporate event entertainment that creates teams and names a winner is only guaranteed to foster dissent in the ranks. There may be greater team spirit within small teams, but the overall loss is greater than the gain.
Do: Cover up the silence!
Getting everyone together in one spot only to listen to the twittering of birds is guaranteed to mean your event flops. Music doesn't have to be the focus of an event, but background music from Melbourne corporate bands is essential to helping people loosen up and feel ready to talk about things other than work. Utilising an actual corporate band in Melbourne rather than an iPod on shuffle means that you get help creating an appropriate playlist, and also create an attention focus for quieter times.
Do: Feed the masses!
Providing food is a fairly standard requirement that goes along with event entertainment in Melbourne. Hungry people are not happy people!
Don't: Offer alcohol on tap
Drunkenness uncovers a side of everybody that is better left at home! Don't encourage people to do things that they'll regret later by offering free alcohol as part of your corporate event entertainment.
Do: Match your entertainment to your audience
Most workplaces up to a certain size have a fairly definite demographic profile. You should choose Melbourne event entertainment that matches the demographic of your staff members - consider the level of physical fitness required, generational interests etc.
Don't: Make interaction difficult
If the aim of your corporate event is to bring employees together to have a good time, don't make it difficult for them to interact! Choose a Melbourne corporate band that is happy to tailor their volume to your needs; leave plenty of room in the schedule for people just to chat; and allow people to choose their own seating etc.
There are so many choices for corporate event entertainment in Melbourne, there is bound to be one that suits your workplace perfectly. Remember, if in doubt... grab a Melbourne corporate band and put on dinner for an easy-please function!

Pointers for Nickelodeon Auditions

Nickelodeon, unlike most production houses, does not hold huge casting calls for their shows. Instead, they have smaller auditions that are usually only known about by people in the industry. For this reason, it would be pertinent to get an agent first.
If you are under the legal age, you will have to get some form of parental consent. Your parents' main concern would be whether getting into an acting career would affect your studies. Make sure you have done enough research on what an acting career entails. It is not just about the glamour, the award shows, and the pay checks. There is also a lot of work that goes into it. When you have done your research about how difficult it can be working in the industry, articulate this to your parents. The more you speak intelligently and the more you display that you are level headed about the endeavour, the higher the chances that they will actually support you. Let them know that it is not a passing phase for you and that you are genuinely interested in being a Nickelodeon actor.
The second thing that you would have to do is get some acting classes. Nickelodeon is a big company and they will only select the best actors. You cannot to expect to sail on your talent alone. If you can afford it, get an acting coach who will tutor you at least five times a week. In several months, your acting skills should be of a higher caliber. It is much better to attend an audition when you are confident about your abilities and having acting classes will make you more convinced about your talent. You do not know when you will get another opportunity to perform in front of the Nickelodeon casting directors. The acting classes will help you not blow your chance.
You will also need to take some headshots of yourself. These are pictures of your face. The best headshots are done professionally so it would be advisable to have them done at a photographer's studio. Once you get your headshots, you would also have to look for an agent to represent you. Agents are good because they will chase after auditions for you and they can give you an idea of what to expect. This is because they tend to know the people in the acting industry. An agent is paid from the money you make on a commission basis. Some agents are more expensive than others are. Make sure that you ask around for recommendations to avoid being ripped off by unscrupulous agents.
Before you go for your Nickelodeon audition, make sure you have prepared at least a two-minute comedic sketch that you will perform. This should be able to portray you as funny and as a serious actor. So incorporate emotion into your monologue. Never be late for your call time! This will not impress the casting agents because they have a schedule to keep to. Be pleasant and memorable and hopefully you will get a call back.

Games Online For Girls

Boys and girls are diametrically opposite to each other and that even applies to their choice of games. The internet is full of video-games but the choices for both the girls and boys are completely different. While boys prefer games like shooting, racing, and other war types that involve some degree of adrenaline rush and aggressiveness, that's a lot to ask of girls. However, today, the internet is full of games dedicated to girls.
Games for Girls
With an increase in the number of female users of the net, the popularity of girl-games online has increased exponentially in the recent years. Some of the choices available to the girls are as follows:
* Cooking Games: Though not completely dedicated to girls, these games involve many activities that are enjoyed by girls. These include pizza making, running cake stores, restaurants, dessert stores, and various others. Though the exact specifications differ from game to game, there are many games that even allow the person to create her own recipe or follow some other recipes. This increases the motivation regarding experimentation and innovation without creating any kind of mess.
* Dance Games: Other popular choices for girls regarding games are those relating to dancing. By using different arrow keys on the keyboard, girls can imitate different types of dance moves. Though it may sound a little simplistic in nature, the advanced levels, music, and animation involved make it quite a challenge for any player. Though it is not educational, yet it can act as a nice fun pastime for many.
* Fashion Games: This is one of the most popular ones on the internet among female gamers. It allows the user to do everything from makeup to hair styling of their chosen characters. They can even give their favorite cartoon character or doll their chosen makeover. In addition to this, one can mix and match the ensembles right from the earrings to shoes to dresses and see the result instantly on their favorite character.
* Babysitting Games: Most girls dream of becoming a competent mother one day. To test their skills, they can readily enjoy the babysitting games where one has to keep a toddler happy until the parents come back home. It also involves complete attention on behalf of the gamer as the child needs complete attention to avoid any untoward incident from happening.
* Wedding Games: These allow the girl to organize fantasy weddings as a wedding planner. She can indulge in her whims and organize weddings as per the budget provided and constraints given. This girl-game allows the girl to indulge in some dreaming while still keeping some ground realities in mind.
The above discussed options are just few of the vast gaming options available for girls on the internet. With an increase in awareness and age group of the girls, gaming also allows more options for females such as those involving love, relationships, dating, kissing, and many more. One should let the child decide which game she wants to play considering her age group and interest area.
