The Legacy of Yash Johar

Dharma Productions is home to some of the blockbuster movies in Bollywood. Their heart warming story lines, appealing star cast and flawless narration has been pulling in the crowd to cinema halls for many years. Their successful track record in filmmaking is a proof that their films have touched many hearts across the world.
Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd was established by Yash Johar in 1976. The company has been producing continuous blockbusters from the time of its establishment. Starting with Dostana starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha and the sensuous Zeenat Aman, the company started striking gold at the box office from the year 1980. With another ensemble of big stars in the industry was the film Duniya released in 1984 which also met with huge success. They came up with stories which had a mix of drama, suspense, romance and emotional sequences. Muqaddar Ka Faisla, Agneepath and Gumrah were their other movies in Bollywood.
Dharma Productions' reputation soaring new heights was obvious and soon they started a proprietary business concern. In 1998, the concern produced Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, first venture of Karan Johar- son of Yash Johar- in the film industry. The film became the first one from India to be featured in the UK top 10 list. This romantic film once again paired the Bollywood's most loved couple Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. In addition to being the biggest blockbuster of the year, the film received numerous awards for its stars cast and production values, nationally and internationally. The film got the National Award for Wholesome Entertainment for the year from Government of India.
The success journey of Dharma Productions was continued with Karan Johar with new story lines meant for the family as well as for the young audience. He made sure that the masses were attracted to his films and so included all the different elements of the fun and drama in them. Even though his movies were referred to as larger than life, his movie sin Bollywood never failed to entertain the audience. With Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham, not only he brought the stars of three generations together but also ensured its commercial success. His efforts paid of when the film did well in Indian and the overseas market. The film became the highest grossing film in UK and US in the year 2001.
Kal Ho Na Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, both films from Karan, were also appreciated. The screenplay of Kal Ho Na Ho is kept for reference in the Library of Motion Pictures, among other archives of Oscar films. Latest movies in Bollywood from Dharma Productions were Dostana, Wake up Sid - both with new generation actors and actresses- and Kurbaan and My Name Is Khan - with audience favorites like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The credit of giving some of the stellar movies in Hindi film industry goes to Dharma Productions Pvt Ltd.
