Sensuous Parveen Babi

There are some actors and actresses who even after their death remain very much alive in the hearts of the people for several reasons. Their charismatic personality, scintillating on-screen performances and unconventional ways of living life has left a mark in the history of Indian film industry. Parveen Babi is one such actress of the '70s and '80s, who portrayed characters, which were much ahead of her time, convincingly well. Her sensuous appeal had won the hearts of many and she also has some popular films and sizzling song numbers to her credit.
Popular Films
In her acting career, which spanned for almost ten years, she has acted in more than fifty films, of which ten were considered to be best. These films were also blockbusters of those times. Parveen Babi replaced the image of saree clad, conventional Indian lead actresses with a glamorous and self-dependent woman look. She never shied away from portraying roles of women having a live-in relationship with men and consuming alcohol openly, both of which were a taboo in those times.
Her career started in the year 1973 with the film Charitra but success beckoned her in 1974 with the film Majboor opposite to living legend Amitabh Bachchan. Some of her best films are Deewar, Amar Akbar Antony, Suhaag, Namak Halal, Khuddar, Kaalia and Meri Awaz Suno. Parveen Babi experimented successfully with many roles which proved her talent as an actress beyond doubt. Her characters varied from gangster's moll, to a mother, a seductress, a cabaret dancer and to a role of silent woman in different films. She has also acted with many talented and versatile actors of Bollywood- most of her successful films saw Amitabh Bachchan as her co-star. With varied roles in different films, she was fortunate to be cast in some popular songs which catapulted her fame to its peak.
Trademark Songs
Amar Akbar Anthony, a blockbuster film of the late '70s, gave Parveen, a popular song which featured all the three pairs of the film. The song, Humko Tumse Ho Gaya Hai, became a popular romantic song. Two of her most popular songs are form the film Namak Halal, opposite to the legendary actor Shashi Kapoor. Jawani Janeman Haseen Dilruba and Raat Baaki Baat Baaki added to her already famous image of an actress. Both these songs are evergreen numbers and still being liked and heard by many people across India. Parveen attracted people with sensuous looks in these songs.
The highest grossing films Suhaag (1979), Main To Beghar Hoon features Parveen and Shashi kapoor. Angrezi Mein Kehte Hai I Love You, Pyaar Karnewale Pyaar Karte Hain and Teri Jheel Si Gehre Aankhon Mein were other romantic numbers of her.
Her relationships with Kabir Bedi and Mahesh Bhatt were the talking point for some time. The beauty and conviction of Parveen Babi is unmatched in Bollywood.
